I got back from Tennessee late Tuesday evening. We had a great time. I saw a lot of old friends and made some new friends. The entertainment at the renaissance festival was superb. The festival site is beautiful. The only thing I don't like is walking up and down the hills. I guess I've gotten too used to the flatlands of Florida.
The trip north was uneventful. We got into a lot of smoke in north Florida. I can see now why the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs was cancelled. On the way home the winds had shifted and we got all the smoke in southern Georgia.
We weren't happy with the gas prices. In some locations it was as low as 2.959 per gallon, but some places were closer to 3.50 per gallon. I find it amazing that the gas companies are making record profits, the barrel price of crude has remained steady, but the price to consumers has skyrocketed. Oh, wait, it's not an election year…
I was trying to be very careful about spending money on "stuff" at the festival. I found a nice Italian doublet on clearance at one of the shops. It's very well made. It was originally priced over $200 but they had it marked down to $95 and I got it for $85 with my renny discount. Now I'll need a new ren shirt, breeches, boots, etc. to go with it. My $85 doublet will end up costing me another $800 or so.
Can't wait for the next festival… life is good.
