Opening day was great! It started out rather cold, but if you stayed in the sunlight it was tolerable. By noon the weather was nice and the crowd started picking up. It never did get very crowded, but that’s not unusual for opening weekend. It takes a couple weeks for things to start getting busy.
It was so nice to see old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. Our little ren fest “family” grows each year. It started out with just a few people hanging out together, now we’ve grown to about a dozen people.
Over the years you see a lot of entertainers come and go. Some that have gone I don’t really miss. Some that remain I wouldn’t miss if they left. Others quickly become favorites. There was a new group that was at the festival last year. You know, the year I had to miss because of work obligations. My friend Bruce told us we should see them because in his opinion they’re great. Luckily, they’re back again this year. We heard them off in the distance while we were at the jousting match and decided we had to check them out. The group is called E Muzeki, and let me tell you they are great. “Ancient and traditional melodies from Celtic, European and Middle Eastern countries performed with energy and emotion on Greek bouzouki, violin, penny whistle and acoustic guitar.” They also ahve a wonderful drummer with them. You need to see this band. They have three CDs available and I bought them all.
Well, it’s about time to start getting ready to head out to the festival for the day. See you there!
