Connection Woes

It started a couple weeks ago.

I'd lose my internet connection briefly every few days.

It started getting worse about a week ago. I'd lose my connection at some point almost every day. Usually around ten or eleven in the morning. Sometimes I'd get my connection back quickly. Sometimes it would come and go. The problem would usually stop sometime in the evening and I'd have a reliable connection throughout the night.

On Saturday the situation was totally unacceptable. The periods of outages grew more frequent and lasted longer each time. Sunday was even worse. Unfortunately, the Brighthouse offices are closed on weekends. Then there's the problem of working around my working hours so it's hard to schedule a service call.

Since the problem seemed to happen only from late mornings until sometime in the evening, I wasn't sure if it was a modem problem or some kind of interference on the system.

This afternoon after work I was able to go to the Brighthouse office. I got a new cable modem. I brought it home and got a connection quickly. It's been on now for over four hours with no apparent problems so it looks like it was a modem problem. Time will tell.

At times like this you start to realize just how much you rely on having an internet connection. Maybe I rely too much on it. It felt like I was having withdrawal symptoms. It's so handy to be able to walk over to the computer any time you want to find out some information and have almost instant results.

Life is good… once again.

Glad you’re apparently repaired. I had a similar intermittent problem about three years ago and a replacement modem solved it.

The intermittent problems are the worst.

Yes, there are withdrawal pains when Internet accessibility stops. Like you, I’m something of an information addict too.

Oh my Pete. I had not had my computer hooked up for maybe a month or two when there was a power outage. After the storm I turned the computer back on and it would not reboot. I quickly called my brother and he told me a coupld things to try and stayed on the phone while I tried them No luck. He came over the next day and tried some things no luck so he took it apart and took some things home. I am not really sure what all. He put some things together and wala! I have more RAM then before and have a few other things. How very nice to have a brother like mine!

Ooops. Just noticed I had my e-mail address as my name.

Corrected now, and this is only an off-topic test.

I was going to comment on your date with two teenage girls post but thought I’d let that one alone. Still wonder how an old fart like you managed that!
