A/C Woes

Last night while I was watching TV I said to myself “What is that strange sound?” Hmmm… Sounds like it’s coming from the A/C closet. Not good…

The air conditioner is running, but the fan in the air handler is not. Not good…

Turn everything off. Reset breakers. Still no fan. Not good…

So I did the time-honored tradition of avoiding the situation and decided to wait until morning to deal with it.

Now it’s morning. A/C still doesn’t work. Oh, well…

Being relatively new to this area, I’m not familiar with any reliable companies. I went over and asked one of my neighbors. She recommended a company that does a lot of work in our neighborhood and has always given her good service. I called them. “No, I’m not a current customer, I’m new to the area and a neighbor recommended you. No, I can’t wait for two weeks for you to get here. Thank you very much.”

Finally I consulted The Alternative Yellow Pages. I called a local company advertising there. They’ll be here in an hour or two. They sounded really nice on the phone. I hope they’re as nice in person.

Luckily I’m off work today, so the timing couldn’t have been better. And it’s an overcast, rainy day so it’s only 76 outside. I can have my windows open and stay reasonably comfortable using fans. I was going to go to Busch Gardens to hang out with friends today, but I guess that’ll have to wait for another one of those rare days off.

Life is good.

Update: I called ABS Air Conditioning about 9:00 this morning. They said they’d get someone out here between 12:00 and 2:00, and they’d call ahead to let me know the technician was on his way. They called at 11:45 to let me know he was on his way. He got here a bit after 12:15. He quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. The starting capacitor on the blower had failed. By 12:40 he was paid and out the door. He was a very personable young man. Total cost to me: $211.00. All in all not too bad. My house is once again cool. Life is good, so is ABS Air Conditioning.

Sorry about your A/C troubles. I have a cable man here now. Repair people. I asked for 9am-12pm and he called and asked if he could come early as he had me down for noon -5. ???

I was at BG yesterday and went to HH but did not see you. :(

I am so happy that you have your A/C back. It is the time of year we really need it. I also got most of my problems fixed with the cable. I now have more channels than I thought. The TV in my room still has the same problem but I can live with it. It’s like another channel behind the one your watching. Cable guy said, “it must be your TV because the cable is fine.” Well I am not getting another TV.
