I have a pocket door between my living room and master bedroom. It has a locking mechanism. Unfortunately, the unlocking mechanism doesn’t work. Should I fix it? Naw, it’s a ratty old design and I’d like to update the look. There’s a lot of "antiqued brass" stuff in my place. You know, the stuff that was popular and trendy twenty years ago. My current preference is for chrome and brushed stainless steel. So rather than fix the current mechanism I decided to replace it.
Easy…
As 1, 2, 3…
Have I ever told you that nothing is ever easy? A simple ten minute project always takes several hours?
So there’s only two screws to remove. Done. Slip in the new mechanism. Done. Screw it into place with two screws. So far, so good. Oops! The screw holes are slightly off. Not a problem. Make new screw holes. Done. Slip in the mechanism and… oops! The mechanism doesn’t quite fit like the old one. Not a problem. Trim a little excess material from the door.
So now I’m bleeding. Must remember to trim material from door, not from finger. It’s amazing how so many simple projects involve bleeding…
No problem. Take a break! I made some tea and sat down to relax and check out what’s happening in cyberspace. Now I’m procrastinating because I don’t want to go back and get frustrated (and probably injured) again…
I’ll let you know if I ever get this simple project finished. That is, if I live to tell you about it.
